A Church for Everyone – Messy Church Tuesday, May 20, 2014 7pm to 8 pm EST Led by Rev Dr. Rich Hill
Messy Church is a way of being church for families based around hospitality, creativity, and celebration. It began in 2004 in the UK and has since caught the imagination of churches of all denominations around the world as they rethink how to be a church for all people, including many who have little or no church connection. This webinar will introduce the concept of Messy Church and the six main values behind it so that churches will create their own Messy Church teams and start to reach out in a new way to bring the families and generations together in their own local context where they may learn about and grow as disciples of Jesus. Rich Hill, pastor of Hope Lutheran Church in Selden, has formed a Messy church team which is developing their own Messy Church ministry based on the values of Messy Church and using the exciting resources used in over 1,000 Messy Churches around the world.
Rev. Dr. Richard O. Hill has served as pastor of Hope Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Selden since 1982. Prior to that he served Hope Lutheran Church in Braintree, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Wagner College, Staten Island, NY (B.A.), Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN (M.Div.), and Andover Newton Theological School (D.Min.) As pastor of Hope, he has seen the congregation grow from 80 to over 400 families and has taken part in twelve building projects. He chaired the Metro NY Synod Commission for Evangelical Outreach, and he has led conferences, workshops, and seminars for church leaders in several states and in the UK. He has provided coaching and mentoring for other pastors and church leaders for several years. Having recently returned from a three-month long sabbatical in which he visited shared ministry settings in England and across the United States, he is currently providing guidance to churches seeking to develop various forms of Shared Ministry. He is the author of the courses, Training Evangelism Callers and The Rise and Fall of a Nation published by Augsburg Publishing House and several articles published in church-related publications. He lives in Coram, NY with his wife Linda Hill, and they have three grown children and five grandchildren.
